Pakistan Cricket Board Eyes Series With India in England

India and Pakistan were supposed to play a short bilateral series in December but the Board of Control for Cricket in India ruled it out.
Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is hopeful that following the thaw in India and Pakistan relations a breakthrough will come soon in the restoration of bilateral cricket ties with a short series in England likely to open doors in 2016.(Shaharyar Still Hopeful of Series)
A reliable source in the PCB told PTI that stung by whatever had transpired in the last two to three months by way of the planned bilateral series between Pakistan and India in December the PCB had now decided to change its policy.(PCB Gives up Playing India in December)
"The PCB has also got feelers from the government to remain quiet on Indo-Pak cricket ties," the source said.(India Won't Play us: PCB Chief)
"They have been told that the surprise visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendar Modi to Lahore which had led to a thaw in tensions between the two countries could lead to restoration of bilateral cricket ties as well," the source disclosed.
"But the PCB has been told not to speak anymore on planned series and wait until some announcement comes from India," he stated.
According to the source there is hope that the Indian cricket board will get permission from its government to play cricket with Pakistan and they could then agree to play three ODIs and three T20 matches in England in 2016.
"The series could happen in England sometime in June as the IPL is from April 9 to May 29 and both teams will have a window in June," the source said.
He said since Pakistan is due to reach England in early July for a three month tour the short series is also being planned in England where there is a big expatriate community of Pakistanis and Indians.
"Pakistan also played a "home" series against Australia in England in 2010 when they last toured England for a full series," he reminded.
"The England and Wales Cricket Board is also silently supporting such a proposal as its President Giles Clarke has been playing the role of a mediator between the Pakistan and Indian boards," he added.

SAFF Cup: 18-year-old Chhangte has potential to take over from Chhetri as India's next football star

It was a watershed moment for Indian football when Bhaichung Bhutia, whom IM Vijayan famously called 'God's gift to Indian football', donned that blue jersey a final time for a farewell match against Bayern Munich at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Among the huge crowd that had turned up to bid adieu India's greatest footballing son, there was one person who had reigned in his emotions and posed a pragmatic question. There stood a guy in the stands with placard that simply said 'who will replace Bhaichung?'
It's not just the 40 goals Baichung scored for the Blue Tigers that made him irreplaceable. It was his aura, it was his mythic stature in Indian football. In a country where sports means cricket, Bhaichung was the one name every kid could take when asked about Indian football. He was synonymous with it. You can find someone who'll score 40 international goals, maybe. But it is really hard to replace an icon. But someone did. His name is Sunil Chhetri.

AAP Dig On Cricket Probe Row: BJP Rubbished Commission, Now It is Gospel?

BJP today demanded an apology from Arvind Kejriwal after the report by the state-appointed commission did not name Union Minister Arun Jaitley.
New Delhi:  Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the BJP was "defending corruption" and "running away from investigation" after the party demanded an apology from him over an inquiry report into the alleged corruption in the Delhi cricket body.
The party's demand came yesterday after the report by the government-appointed commission did not name Union Minister Arun Jaitley -- who headed the cricket body for 13 years - despite Mr Kejriwal's pointed allegations.
"Why is Jaitley ji afraid of facing enquiry? That's the difference between BJP and AAP. AAP takes strong and swift action on credible evidence. BJP defends corruption and runs away from investigation," the Chief Minister said in a series of tweets.
Mr Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party contends that this report is not final, and there's more to come, and the report, which the BJP is citing, says there should be a commission of inquiry into the matter.
Stepping up the attack, AAP leader Ashutosh said the BJP, which had earlier rubbished the commission, was now considering it a "sacred book".
"Even PM Modi has said you should follow (LK) Advani and resign till he comes clean," he said.
AAP has also accused the BJP government of stalling the commission's progress through Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. The BJP has questioned Mr Kejriwal's naming of a one-man commission to inquire into the alleged corruption on grounds of jurisdiction.
"A whistleblower had alerted the Delhi government that the formation of the commission will be scuttled through Lt Governor," Ashutosh said.
Mr Jaitley, who has rubbished AAP's allegations, has already filed a defamation case against Mr Kejriwal and Ashutosh. The minister, who headed the DDCA for 13 years till 2013, has said Mr Kejriwal's allegations were meant to to deflect attention from a CBI raid on his principal secretary Rajender Kumar.
Earlier today, the BJP demanded a "public apology" from Mr Kejriwal. "The truth is out. The report does not name Jaitley. There is no allegation against him, there is no indication (of wrongdoing)," said BJP spokesperson MJ Akbar.
