Infosys sets up 6.6 MW solar plant in Telangana campus

With this launch, combined with the existing 0.6 MW rooftop solar plant, the Pocharam campus will be one of the first corporate campuses in India to be run completely by renewable energy, Infosys said in a statement.

Country's second largest software services firm Infosys unveiled a 6.6 MW capacity solar PV power plant at its Pocharam campus in Telangana.

With this launch, combined with the existing 0.6 MW rooftop solar plant, the Pocharam campus will be one of the first corporate campuses in India to be run completely by renewable energy, Infosys said in a statement.

The plant, with a total capacity of 7.2 MW, has been synchronised with the grid and is expected to generate 12 million kWh per annum, it added.

The initiative is expected to reduce Infosys' CO2 emissions by 9,200 tonnes. The Infosys IT SEZ at Pocharam is spread over 450 acres and under phase I, it has 16,000 seats. The construction of Phase II is underway with a planned capacity of 25,000 people.

An area has been reserved to construct Phase III as well. Currently, Infosys has installed 12 MW solar power plants (onsite) across its campuses and another 3 MW is expected to be completed within the next two months.

"Our team, led by Ramadas Kamath, continues to set new standards in our commitments to reduce electricity consumption. Our beautiful Hyderabad campus is another great example of this commitment," Infosys CEO and Managing Director Vishal Sikka said.

At the end of fiscal 2015, Infosys had reduced its per capita consumption of electricity by 46 percent. Also, about 30 percent of its energy requirements are now being met through renewable sources.

"Companies have a responsibility to the communities in which they are present and sustainable development and climate change are issues that businesses need to get actively involved in. We hope other companies will emulate us, aligning to the goals committed by India at COP21, Paris, with an overall objective of creating a sustainable future," Infosys EVP and Head (Infrastructure, Facilities, Administration, Security and Sustainability) Ramadas Kamath said.

On December 29, 2015, at 13:04 hrs Infosys was quoting at Rs 1098.80, down Rs 2.85, or 0.26 percent. The 52-week high of the share was Rs 1219.00 and the 52-week low was Rs 798.21.

The company's trailing 12-month (TTM) EPS was at Rs 66.53 per share as per the quarter ended September 2015. The stock's price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio was 16.52. The latest book value of the company is Rs 209.27 per share. At current value, the price-to-book value of the company is 5.25.

Polls held for six Telangana Legislative Council seats

"The polling was completed peacefully without any untoward incident", said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Bhanwar Lal.    As many as 19 candidates are in the fray in the elections to the six seats -two each in Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar districts and one each in Nalgonda and Khammam.

Ranga Reddy district recorded 99.74 percentage polling followed by Mahbubnagar at 99.7 while the figures for Nalgonda and Khammam stood at 99.1 and 95.32 per cent, respectively, officials said.    Candidates of TRS, Congress, Telugu Desam, YSR Congress, CPI as well as independents are among the contenders in these polls.    As many as 19 polling stations were set up at sub-divisional headquarters to facilitate polling by a total electorate of 3,869 voters.    The counting of votes will take place on December 30. The ruling TRS has already won six seats unanimously in the Karimnagar, Warangal, Nizamabad, Medak and Adilabad districts of the state.

One more call 'money operator' arrested in Andhra Pradesh; documents seized

The arrested, identified as Kommireddy Venkata Subba Reddy, a native of Gudivada in Krishna district, used to allegedly charge exorbitant interest rate from borrowers, police said. The 47-year-old operated his finance business in Gudivada as well as Vijayawada.    The police seized 1,469 promissory notes, 911 blank bank cheques, 59 bank passbooks and 83 ATM cards from him, Deputy Commissioner of Police LKV Ranga Rao told reporters here. After receiving complaints from many victims (borrowers), police collected 'substantial evidence' against Reddy and placed him under arrest, he said.    The accused used to provide finance only to government employees, particularly those from Railways. Reddy would collect blank cheques and ATM cards from borrowers, who were also made to sign promissory notes, the officer said.    He would not allow borrowers to know their salary details and the amount repaid to him, Rao said. If any borrower dared to question him on repayment, Reddy used either force or filed legal cases against them, the DCP said, adding many families have been ruined because of his finance business.    Andhra Pradesh has been rocked by 'call money' racket. 'Call money' refers to a mode of private lending where loan is made available instantly at borrower's doorstep but at exorbitant rates of interest, and the lender can demand repayment anytime over a call.

Fire at Telangana CM's Yagam, Prez chopper returns

A fire broke out in one of the thatched pandals set up for Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s ‘Ayutha Chandi Yagam’ in Erravelli in the state’s Medak district on Sunday, forcing President Pranab Mukherjee’s fleet of helicopters return without landing.

Mukherjee was supposed to attend the Maha Poornahuthi, the final step of the five-day Maha Yaga conducted by the CM in his farmhouse, costing more than Rs 7 crore.

However, no one was injured in the incident as fire tenders quickly doused the fire. The fire broke out during the lunch break and a few minutes before the arrival of the President.

The police immediately cleared the area by removing barricades to prevent a stampede. Volunteers, too, acted swiftly and ensured that all devotees walked out to safety and secured the Yagashala. It is said that the heat emanating from more than a hundred Yaga pits caused the fire.

Much to the disappointment of CM Rao, the incident took place in the north-west corner of the vast Yagashala around 1:30 pm just as the three-chopper fleet of the President tried to make a sortie over the area. Though the security personnel on the ground cleared the whole area, the choppers returned to Hyderabad as the area was considered unsafe for landing. Meanwhile, most of the state’s ministers and leaders of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti rushed to Erravelli.

According to a government press release, no one was hurt. The statement added that the Yagam had concluded successfully on Sunday with Gurupradhana, Poorvangam and Poornahuthi in which Governor E S L Narasimhana also participated.

Commenting on the incident, Swami Swarupanandendra Swamy, a seer from Visakhapatnam, said fire is auspicious. “It has been a tradition to light the Yagashala with fire after completion of the Maha Chandi Yagam,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu reached Erravelli in a helicopter. He was received with Poornakumbham and full honours. Naidu spent more than an hour-and-a-half at the Yagashala. He was accompanied by Union Ministers Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Y S Chowdary, Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishnamurthy and minister Ganta Srinivas Rao.
